What can we expect from our workplaces this year? In this post, we\u2019ll be looking at three major projected trends for this year. Let\u2019s dig in.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Increased employee power<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Firstly, let\u2019s consider the power inversion of employers\/employees which has come into play. The Great Resignation has placed pressure on businesses to retain workers, and this \u201ctight labour market is a reflection of the individual introspection triggered by the pandemic\u201d, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.workday.com\/en-us\/2021\/where-hr-heading-2022-what-4-workforce-trends-reveal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gillian Ogawa of Workday<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People are revaluating their careers, resigning from unfulfilling jobs where they\u2019re undervalued, and pursuing more meaningful employment. This has led to a shift in power, with employees on top. This shift is visible in the dynamics of the forecasted workplace trends for 2022. In Dan Schawbel\u2019s (Managing Partner of Workplace Intelligence) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/top-10-workplace-trends-2022-dan-schawbel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Top 10 Trends for 2022,<\/a> seven out of the ten trends relate to meeting employee needs, and five out of Korn Ferry\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kornferry.com\/insights\/featured-topics\/future-of-work\/2022-future-of-work-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seven areas dominating future of work trends in 2022<\/a> also prioritise the employee. <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2021\/12\/09\/after-the-great-resignation-4-workplace-predictions-for-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jane Their of Fortune describes<\/a> the \u201cskyrocketing employee power,\u201d indicating that business who wish to survive and thrive in 2022 must shift their gaze from profit back to their people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As businesses fight to retain talent, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/top-10-workplace-trends-2022-dan-schawbel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schawbel predicts<\/a> \u201cin 2022, people will no longer tolerate companies that treat them poorly, and they\u2019ll hold employers to a higher standard than ever before.\u201d With more power in the hands of the employee, workers are in a position to negotiate for what they want. Businesses will need to be competitive with their benefit packages, including improved medical coverage, paid leave, better mental health support and flexible working arrangements. This includes tools to assist remote workers, employee management, and a rise in \u201chyper-automation\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/top-10-workplace-trends-2022-dan-schawbel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schawbel<\/a>. He describes a \u201cdigital mindset\u201d which will rely heavily on software to support and simplify business procedures. This relates to flexible work arrangements, balanced with those returning to offices. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/top-10-workplace-trends-2022-dan-schawbel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schawbel<\/a> raises concerns of a \u201ctwo-tiered workforce\u201d, with \u201ca strong bias against remote workers.\u201d Business will need to avoid favouring in-office employees over remote workers in order to combat this.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s see how the year unfolds.
