A Disclosure Scotland (DS) check assesses the criminal histories of candidates working in Scotland to help employers make informed recruitment decisions. The DS check promotes safeguarding by determining if candidates are suitable to work with certain groups, such as vulnerable adults and children.
Basic – Any individual over the age of 16 is eligible for a Basic Check. This is the lowest level DS check available and will show you the candidate’s unspent criminal convictions. Standard – A Standard DS check will show you spent and relevant unspent convictions and cautions, as well as information from the Sex Offenders Register. Enhanced – An Enhanced DS check will include spent and unspent convictions and cautions, inclusion on children and adult barred lists, relevant information held by the police and information from the Sex Offenders Register. Not all roles are eligible for Standard and Enhanced DS Checks; you can check their eligibility here: www.mygov.scot/disclosure-types
A DBS check is for candidates working in England and Wales. A DS check is for candidates working in Scotland.
