Originally for the security industry, it is now widely used in many industries across the UK and overseas within the Healhcare, Finance, Education, Entertainment, Retail and IT industries. Whilst the BS7858 screening is a standard, it is mandatory for those wanting to join the Security Industry Association's (SIA) Approved Contractor Scheme.

What documents are required?

BS7858 screening requires ID verification and a proof of address document.

Accepted ID:

  • Passport
  • Driving Licence

Accepted Proof of Address Documents:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Council Tax Bill
  • Bank Statements
  • Utility Bill (not for a mobile)
  • P45 or P60

Referencing:

  • Employment contract/letter of acceptance
  • Accountant's statements
  • Invoices to clients (for self-employment)
  • Qualification certificates

No it’s not, but it is a requirement for anyone wanting to join the SIAs Approved Contractor Scheme.

How long does a BS7858 last?

The standard is valid 5 years from the issue date.

How do I get the results of BS7858 screening?

Who can use BS7858 screening?

Any organisation within secure environments are recommended to use the screening for its employees, but it is a mandatory requirement for entry to the Security Industry Association's (SIA) Approved Contractor Scheme.

Is there any way to fast-track a BS7858 check?

Unfortunately, no. BS7858 involves 6 different checks which are processed differently, and we have no control over checks such as DBS, which involve the candidate's local police force. However, to avoid unnecessary delays, candidates can ensure the information they have provided is correct and that all fields are filled in. Don't worry, VETTING.com makes the process simple! Advice for Candidates doing their BS7858 checks with VETTING.com
  • You will be asked to give consent for each of the individual checks that make up BS7858 screening. If you do not give consent, you won’t be able to proceed with entering the details for a check.
  • You can view the progress of your checks at any point by logging into your VETTING.com account. Here you will see if you have anything left to do or if any of your referees haven't submitted their reference yet.
  • You will be asked to provide a range of dated documents to prove your name, address, date of birth etc. Don't worry though! The platform will prompt you at each stage and guide you through what documents are needed.
